How SEND services in Waltham Forest are performing. Every figure links to its public source.

SEND in each school

How many pupils in each of Waltham Forest's mainstream schools have an EHC plan or SEN support, and what each special school, resourced provision and SEN unit is recorded as offering. For whether there are enough places, see Places.

Pupils with SEND in each mainstream school

How many pupils in each of the borough's state-funded mainstream primary and secondary schools had an EHC plan or SEN support in the January 2026 school census.

In Waltham Forest's 51 primary schools, 5.3% of pupils had an EHC plan, against 4.9% in London and 4.1% in England. In individual schools the share ranged from 0.4% to 11.7%. Half the schools had 5.1% or less.

In Waltham Forest's 17 secondary schools, 5.2% of pupils had an EHC plan, against 3.6% in London and 3.5% in England. In individual schools the share ranged from 2.1% to 11.4%. Half the schools had 4.8% or less.

These figures show which pupils go to each school, not how well a school supports them. A school with resourced provision or an SEN unit (marked below) has places for pupils with EHC plans from across the borough, which can raise its share. In small schools the share can change a lot from year to year.

Special schools, resourced provision and SEN units

The DfE's register of schools, Get Information About Schools, records the ages each special school takes and the types of need it caters for. Schools and the council keep these entries up to date themselves.

Some mainstream schools have places set aside for children with a particular type of need. In resourced provision, children are taught mostly in ordinary classes and get extra support. In an SEN unit, children are taught mostly in separate classes. Places are usually for children with an EHC plan.

Some entries look incomplete or out of date. 3 schools have no places recorded. Big Creative Academy records as many specialist places as the whole school, or more. So we haven't added these up, and they don't match the DfE count of 174 places on the Places page, which comes from what the council reported each May.
